- Click on "Start"
- Click on "Control Panel" or ("Settings", "Control Panel")
- Click on "System"
- If you are using Windows 2000 or XP, click on the "Hardware" tab at the top of this window, and then click on "Device Manager".
2. Locate the modem under "Other Devices" and delete it. Make sure there are not multiple instances of it; delete all that are there. Verify that the category of "Other Devices" is no longer on the list.
3. Click on the "+" next to the category of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". If there is a "USB Composite Device" listed, delete it.
4. Close all windows.
5. Insert the cable modem CD and close any auto-run windows that may open.
6. Unplug the USB connection from the back of your PC (not the modem)
7. Shut down (not re-start) your PC.
8. Plug the USB back into the computer.
9. Re-boot your PC.
10. Follow the General USB Install Instructions listed in the above section.
