E-mail Blocks

Insight is aware that AOL, or other Internet Service Providers (ISP), may be blocking e-mail coming from some InsightBB.com e-mail addresses or network space. There are many reasons that a potentially valid e-mail message is blocked, but most often it is because the other ISP is receiving mass quantities of unsolicited mailings (more commonly known as spam), or virus-infected messages. The other ISP must take steps to protect their network and their subscribers by implementing temporary blocks on IP addresses and domains. Once the InsightBB.com domain or your IP address is blocked, you cannot send e-mail to recipients on the other ISP service.

It is important to note that Insight attempts to work with every provider that implements a block that affects your ability to send e-mail. We work to understand and correct the issues that led to our e-mail service being blocked. Most of the time, we find that the spam or viruses transmitted to other networks are through customer computers that have been infected with a virus or otherwise compromised. When this happens, your computer has been "hijacked" and may be sending viruses and/or thousands of spam messages to the other ISP's network without your knowledge.

Insight is actively taking steps to warn subscribers about the dangers of viruses and spam Trojans being transmitted through hijacked computers. Our Security web site located at http://www.insightbb.com/pcsecurity/default.aspx provides detailed, current information and tools that can help you resolve or avoid this issue. We strongly recommend that you visit this site, and at the very least, ensure that your computer programs are up to date and that you install and maintain:

  • An up-to-date anti-virus program which scans all inbound e-mails and your hard drive.
  • A software or hardware-based firewall, which prevents malicious programs from entering or leaving your PC.
  • Ensure that you have install all the critical security updates available for you computer operating system.

If you are negatively impacted by another provider's block, you will probably receive an e-mail from the other provider with an error message. We request that you first view the error message, and visit any websites that are noted in the error e-mail. Most of the time, the website will give a full explanation of the reason for the block, and the steps that you must take to remove the block on your e-mail.

AOL provides detailed information on their error messages through a lookup form located at http://postmaster.aol.com/selfhelp/error.html. This form will allow you to look up information specifically related to the error message you have received. Please review this information carefully and take the appropriate action to correct the issue.

We also request that you send the full error message you received to Insight's Mail Blocking E-mail address at abuse@InsightBB.com. This allows us to review the error message and work with the other provider to resolve the issue.
